Casual Play[ edit edit source ] Casual Play mode matchmaking includes a new player pool. Players are initially placed in a separate pool, allowing them to play exclusively against other new players. After a certain period, players are introduced into the main matchmaking pool.
Mar 12, · Dunno about SC2, but in BLC it works kinda good. Just about to say that. The only problem I have with BLC is that I’m around level 30, so when I do ladder games I get matched with level 70s because nobody does ladders at my level.
Sign up, collect pledges, win games, raise money! How does it work? As a player, you’ll pick a charity to play for and set a goal for the number of wins you want to achieve during the event. We’ll create your personal page that your friends and family can visit to pledge money to your cause. Once the event starts, just play! For StarCraft, play ladder matches, on your own or in a team.
For Dota, play ranked or unranked matchmaking, in a party or soloqueue. As long as it’s an official matchmaking game against other humans, it will count. Each time you win, you’ll raise more of the money that was pledged to you, until you reach your goal. We’ll automatically track your progress. When it’s all over, we’ll let you know how you did, and we’ll give your donors the information they need to complete their pledge. Do you collect payment information?
Source These are separate MMRs. If you already are ranked though, the unranked matchmaking will use your ranked MMR as the initial base to judge your skill and better match you from the start. However, both ranked matchmaking and unranked matchmaking have the same pool of players who can be matched together. The poster I quoted talked by separate MMRs for each unranked race. But now that we have you online, maybe you could spill some secrets and tell us if dayvie convinced anyone else at Blizzard about that idea?
To be more elaborate:
The second chapter in the StarCraft II trilogy, Heart of the Swarm is a science fiction-themed real-time strategy game for PC and Mac. Players take control of the vicious Zerg faction in an interstellar war against the hard-nosed Terrans and psionic Protoss.
Garquill 5 years ago 4 level doesn’t matter, it’s just a system that lets you unlock some things who you are matched against depends on MMR Matchmaking Rating, which is basically an Elo rating. It’s basically a rating that is meant to reflect your skill. You gain rating when you win, and lose rating when you lose. How much you gain or lose depends on the rating of the opponent. If your opponent has a notably higher rating than you, you will get a lot of points if you beat him.
If you beat someone with the same rating as you, you won’t get nearly as many points. If you beat someone with a notably lower rating than you, you will get a small amount of points. The game tries to match you up against people with similar ratings. SC2’s elo system has some added quirks that normal elo systems don’t have, and it tries to predict where you belong when you haven’t played many games speeds the process up.
So that’s mainly what placement matches are for, but your rating can still change faster than normal for a while after the 5 matches.
It depends on a lot of factors within the game, let me try to explain some of them. If you want the wave to push to you and get under your tower it’s ok to go last hit the minions still, just don’t attack the wave more than you need to. Unless, you’re really far behind and walking up to the wave will result in losing a lot of health or dieing. This is where csing under tower becomes your only option.
These are separate MMRs. If you already are ranked though, the unranked matchmaking will use your ranked MMR as the initial base to judge your skill and better match you from the start.
I’d have preferred if they released a game with the core actually functional? Even things like the ability to change your crosshair was missing for fuck sake. Physics and netcode tied to framerate, laggy interpolation, lack of direction. There are many “core” things that are wrong with the game. Yes, innovation is good and trying new things isn’t inherently bad, but “abilities”, the new duel format, lack of other team gamemodes is bad. Making something “new” just to appeal to the masses and promoting a shit game just to keep “Quake” in the big titles is just pointless imo.
If this is the direction the game has taken, I’d rather them not continue the franchise. It’s like when producers tarnish a great film with a shit sequel. And where are the things the community have been consistently asking for and implementing for years? Division between experienced players and new players to prevent a disheartening experience? More server-side options and control?

Ranked play is a system that evaluates and determines rank based on player skill, and matches up players and teams of similar levels. The HUD is more limited than in casual, and you will be choosing spawn and objective locations as part of your gameplay strategy. Casual is a great place to practice against a wider variety of skill levels with no pressure, but every single game counts in Ranked.

Zeed Thanks for your answer, but it doesn’t really explain what I was looking for. I already know how ranked matchmaking is basically working, it’s separate from the ranks like “rookie” etc. I was looking for how matches are chosen in un-ranked games. I want to say it is entirely random in un-ranked games. Hence un-ranked games being just for fun. I could be wrong. It searches and sorts by ping?
I’ve seen people of all skill levels in unranked, from rookie to pro, even on the same server. Instead, I would assume matchmaking is based off of the numeric value shown when choosing categories in the “find match” menu. My guess is the value is averaged out over the team, them the matchmaking system tries to find another team close to that value.
So a 2v2 team with [ , ] could be matched with one with [ , ], since they both average out to I would assume unranked works in a similar fashion, just with a hidden numeric ranking that changes more rapidly with wins and losses.

I’m not very good at duelyst and right now I’m often seeing many losses for every win particularly because I’ve been sticking with the apparently off-meta Vetruvian and Magmar, as I don’t really care for the others. I’ve also had a lot of bad luck with orbs and have few valuable cards to assemble quality decks from. I’m ok with my losses and bad luck, just part of the learning process, but I’ve noticed that over time, my opponents decks are increasing how many legendaries and powerful strategies they have despite my lower level of play.
Is unranked matchmaking based off of your win loss ratios, or off of another metric like the average value of the cards you have in your collection, the duration you’ve spent playing, or the level of the faction you’re playing with? It’s frustrating for me, with a fairly weak collection of decks and an admittedly mediocre skill level, to be playing against Songhai decks that are running triple tusk boars or magmar decks packed with metamorphosis and warbeasts.
Should I actually move back to ladder and let my rank fall down so I’m not getting massacred by superior decks all the time?
